To compliment my baking, I am hand block printing table linens (tablecloths, table runners, napkins), combining my own designs with traditional craftsmanship to create artisanal products. I both design and print each and every one in my studio in the Surrey Hills. They are all lovingly created as I have fallen deeply for the process, as it allows me to be creative. I dearly hope you will grace your table and enhance the 'theatre' of your dining experience with some of my pieces.
Hand Printed in the Surrey Hills
Block printing has a rich and vibrant history. It is one of the oldest and most enduring printing techniques, originating in China over 4000 years ago. It spread across Asia, with India becoming the epicentre of the trade, using hand carved teak or sheesham wood blocks and natural dyes.
The wooden blocks I use are hand carved in little villages in Rajasthan and the paints are natural and toxin free. The Linens I am using are either pure cotton, or a cotton and linen mix.
Many of my designs originate from inspirational ideas which I then translate onto the fabric, others evolve as I begin printing, simply choosing an initial block, various colours of paint and then I follow my heart.
Please note, most pieces are one-offs, or limited runs. However, I am working on bespoke projects, so please do get in touch if you would like more of something that you see here, or you would like me to create table linens to match your decor or your crockery. As each item is hand printed, there may be slight variations in the print and colour, which is an inherent part of the printing, and only enhances the intrinsic quality exclusiveness of the final product.
